My sketches are produced using a variety of media, often i create them alongside the underpainting of whatever's on my easel at the time, as I use a lot of acrylic to start, especially to block in colour. Then i just use a combination of inks, spray paints, pen, and even watercolour, everything lurking in my studio apart from oils. The images evolve depending on the subject, my materials and my mood! Some are created quite haphazardly, while others in a more considered way, but all have a far more frenzied look than my oils which i think contrasts really well when displayed together.
I've been a fan of graffiti style artwork and urban art for ages, and have been inspired to try stencilling as a result. The stencils themselves are quite tricky to make, I use stencil card or acetate, and cut the whole thing out myself with a craft knife. I loved the idea of taking something quite urban and using more traditional painterly methods inside the studio, I think the contrast of watercolours and the hard black sprayed lines can look really interesting.
